EXCLUSIVE: Alistair Overeem: "There's Always Pressure And I Always Don't Give A Damn"

Alistair Overeem came into the UFC in 2011 considered by many to be the best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world. Today, he's still looking for that validation.

Overeem squares off against Francis Ngannou Saturday night at UFC 218 in a top contender's fight that puts the winner in line for a title shot against Stipe Miocic. Ahead of the bout, Overeem told Fightful.com's James Lynch that he considers Ngannou a worthy opponent, but will be prepared to deliver a balanced attack.

"I'm going to be ready wherever. Stand up, ground, clinch. He definitely deserves this fight. He looks like a beast. A nine-fight winning streak. He's doing great, he looks awesome. You can see what he's done to the competition. He's got that one-punch knockout power. He definitely deserves to be here. I'm in the best shape of my life, it's going to be an exciting fight," said Overeem.

After an underwhelming fight against Fabricio Werdum his last time out at UFC 213 in July, Lynch asked Overeem if he felt pressure to end his upcoming bout in exciting fasion. 

"There's always pressure, and I always don't give a damn. I'm always going to cruise and do my own thing. Call it stubborn, call it whatever you want, that's just who I am," Overeem said.
