Casey Kenney makes his UFC debut this Saturday Night at UFC Fight Night Philadelphia, facing Ray Borg in a flyweight division affair.
The LFA double champion was ready to compete at UFC Fight Night Nashville if need be, but is also ready for the short notice opportunity in Philadelphia.
“Not really (expecting to compete at UFC Fight Night Philadelphia), I sent him a text…my manager a text that night saying ‘hey if they need somebody for Nashville, I’m ready.’ It was kind of just joking around, which would’ve been the next day (when the UFC called). So I asked for it and they hit me up for this week, never expected it to be this soon…but I’m all for it man, I’m ready to go. I’m in shape, I’m healthy. Lets keep fighting, I’ll fight next weekend if they want me to,” says Kenney in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Kenney had less than a week to prepare for his UFC debut and just competed last Friday on a Legacy Fighting Alliance card.
Some fighters, when competing on short notice, have issues with the weight cut, but that doesn’t seem to be an issues with Kenney.
“It’s still a weight cut, but it doesn’t take my soul like 125 does. This would be a totally different ballgame if I made 125 last weekend and had to make it again this weekend, I didn’t really have time to blow up and gain those extra five or ten pounds that you normally do the week after a fight. Actually, when I got home, I was eating a bowl of cereal and some protein shake when the phone call came. The cereal went down the drain, I gotta get back to work. So here I am, enjoying it all man,” says Kenney.
UFC Fight Night Philadelphia takes place on Saturday, March 30 from the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with Edson Barboza and Justin Gaethje headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on ESPN.
