Pearl Gonzalez is making a return trip to the Invicta cage at Invicta FC 31, where she takes on Daiane Firmino in the co-main event of the evening.
The UFC veteran made her flyweight division debut at Invicta FC 28 and by all accounts, everything went right on that night.
“I felt great, I think that I didn’t have o cut any weight. I was strong, I was fast, I was efficient in there. I feel good, I think right now…this is the best place for me. It allows for me to just focus on my skills, focus on getting better and putting on a good performance. I don’t have to worry so much about the weight cut,” says Gonzalez in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Gonzalez did go winless during a two fight stint in the UFC, but both of those bouts had come at strawweight.
Shortly after Invicta FC 28, tragedy struck as Gonzalez’s father passed away and she plans on honoring him through fighting.
“I’m coming into this fight differently, I have a different motivation. Two weeks after my last fight, my dad passed away. I’m very close to my father, he’s the one that put me into fighting when I was eleven years old. Today, I live to honor him through my fighting. Its just a different motivation, I’m a different person today than I was in my last fight. You’re going to see that and I’m just going in there…(to be) relentless,” says Gonzalez.
Invicta Fighting Championships 31 takes place on Saturday, September 1 from the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri with Virna Jandiroba and Janaisa Morandin headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
