UFC 223's Ray Borg Talks Brandon Moreno, Incoming Fatherhood & Star Trek references

Ray Borg is back in action in just a few short weeks at UFC 223 and his opponent on that night is fellow top 15 ranked flyweight Brandon Moreno.

One thing that could heavily weigh on a fighters mind before a bout is being a father in the near future, which is exactly what Borg is experiencing right now.

“Its interesting you know, myself and my wife didn’t really expect it (having a child) so soon. I’m more than prepared, I’ve honestly, in a sense, helped bring up a lot of kids. I’m excited for it,” Borg says in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Luckily for the expecting parents, it won’t be until sometime in May that the child is due, while UFC 223 is set for April.

Looking towards the future and not focusing on the upcoming fight could lend itself to some issues for fighters, but Borg isn't worried about that because he already has some plans in mind.

“I want to fight…I would like to fight two more times by the end of the year, that would be great. One more time is what I need and whats more likely for me. For a little while after my baby’s born, I would like to take a couple of months off and kind of help focus on helping my wife with the baby…helping out on my end. For sure (fight) one more time by the end of the year, I’m down to squeeze in two…I’m down to fight every weekend if I can. My plan is to go in there and beat Moreno. I’m a big fan of (Joseph) Benavidez, I have much love for Benavidez, but in a sense…I hope (Sergio) Pettis beats him because if I beat Moreno and Pettis beats Benavidez. Pettis is a fight that I’ve wanted for a long time and that would make sense, that’s what I’m looking forward to next…the winner of those two,” says Borg.

UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
