Vicente Luque once found himself in the uncomfortable position of being physically entangled with a partner who destroyed his knee.
Luque (no. 10 welterweight) caught up with Fightful and reflected on the most uncomfortable injury he has ever witnessed. The incident took place during a training session and left everyone involved in a compromising position.
"We were in the 50/50 guard, training MMA. We had MMA gloves," he recalled. "We got into a scramble, got into the 50/50. I have good knees. I haven't injured myself, fortunately. I have strong legs. I'm not a guy who tries to submit with leg locks or foot locks. I was just trying to defend myself. I remember the guy I was training with tried to do some kind of spinning thing."
"I don't know what it was but I just kept my leg as stiff as I could so that I wouldn't get hurt. I heard the loudest pop. It was really nasty and he started screaming," Luque continued. "Three ligaments were out on his knee. The hard thing is we were still in the 50/50 position. Trying to get out of it while he was in so much pain was hard. I was trying to move out and my coach was trying to untangle us."
Luque is 8-1 in his last nine fights with seven finishes over the likes of Niko Price (twice), Mike Perry and Randy Brown. His only loss in that run is to Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.
