The Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix will continue this April when Fedor Emelianenko battles former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir at a yet to be named event in Chicago.
Emelianenko (36-5-0-1NC) is currently winless under the Bellator MMA banner, suffering a knockout loss to Matt Mitrione at Bellator 180. Emelianenko had won five fights prior to that loss, which includes wins over UFC veterans Jeff Monson, Pedro Rizzo and Fabio Maldonado. Emelianenko hasn’t competed in a tournament of any kind since the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, where he was eliminated in the opening round by UFC veteran Antonio Silva.
Mir (18-11-0) is going to be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and the fighter hasn’t earned a victory in almost three years. Mir is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, defeating Tim Sylvia by submission to win the gold at UFC 48 in June 2004. Mir is also competing outside of the UFC auspices for the first time in over sixteen years, while the Hook N’ Shoot and International Fighting Championship promotions being the only other places Mir has fought at.
Bellator MMA: Emelianenko vs. Mir takes place on Saturday, April 28 from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois with Fedor Emelianenko and Frank Mir headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
