Floyd Mayweather Comments On The McGregor - Malignaggi Relationship

Floyd Mayweather is in the midst of a training camp for his upcoming super fight with UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

McGregor and retired boxer Paulie Malignaggi have formed quite a rivalry between them, which started after the photo was released showing Malignaggi apparently being dropped by McGregor during a sparring session.

Mayweather believes the issues between McGregor and Malignaggi are proving the lack of focus McGregor has for the super fight.

“It shows a lot,” Lee told MMA Fighting. “It shows [McGregor is] more focused on the show than the actual skill. He should be focused on the boxing, not trying to post stuff like that this close to the fight. He should be more focused, I feel. Because Floyd is very focused.”

The boxing legend has dealt with sparring partners as well throughout his career, which includes a young prospect in Lee Mays.

Mays says that Mayweather has been a great to him and everybody else who has helped prepare him for McGregor.

“Floyd is real respectful, man,” Mays said. “Treats you good, pays good. End of the day, gives you good recognition. He’s not the kind of guy that punches on you and tells everybody else to talk about you and brags about it. You don’t win fights in the gym. You do — but fights aren’t held in the gym. So there’s no point to brag about what you did in the gym. ‘I got a knockout in the gym, I got a stoppage in the gym.’ That’s gym work. It’s not about what goes on in the camp, it’s about what goes on when the lights shine on you.”

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
