Geoff Neal has suffered from a serious health scare and has been pulled from the August 29 UFC Fight Night card, replacing him against Neil Magny is former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.
Neal posted about his health scare on Instagram:
MMA DNA was the first to report that Lawler accepted the short notice opportunity against Magny.
Magny (23-7-0) enters the contest riding a two fight losing streak, defeating the duo of Jingliang Li and Anthony Rocco Martin. Magny hasn’t suffered a defeat in almost two years, with that last loss coming to Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Fight Night Buenos Aires. Magny has competed thirty times as a professional MMA fighter and nearly half of those encounters went the distance.
Lawler (28-14-0-1NC) is competing for the first time in over a year and also enters the contest on a three fight losing streak. Lawler hasn’t picked up a victory in over three years, with that last win coming over Donald Cerrone at UFC 214. Lawler is a former UFC welterweight champion, defeating Johny Hendricks to win the gold at UFC 181 in July of 2015.
The recently announced UFC card is set for Saturday, August 29 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
