Georges St. Pierre Vows To Get More Finishes In UFC Return

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre returns after a four-plus year absence to face UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping at UFC 217.

The fighter is making a vow as he returns to the Octagon to get more finishes in his bouts.

“I’ve trained a lot of things,” St. Pierre said on The MMA Hour. “I’m gonna be more there to hurt guys and to go for the finish. To submit, to break. To go for the break. To go for the knockout or go for the break if i have a submission. Until he taps. I’m gonna be more opportunistic.”

GSP has seen his last seven appearances in the UFC go the distance and his last finish came over BJ Penn at UFC 94 in January 2009. When he does finally step back in the Octagon, the former champion plans on making opponents accept defeat in the way that past opponents have.

“They were accepting the defeat,” St. Pierre said. “They knew they were going to lose before the end of the fight. They were fighting to not get beat up too much instead of fighting to win. On my side, I was fighting to win, but it’s hard. You know that if you’re exposing yourself [to] useless openings, [you can] get beat up.”

UFC 217 takes place on Saturday, November 4 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
