The fallout from UFC 282 didn't take very long.
During the UFC 282 post-event press conference, Ultimate Fighting Championship President, Dana White announced that former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Glover Teixeira will face surging contender, Jamahal Hill for the still vacant 205-pound title at UFC 283 on January 21 in Teixeira's home country of Brazil.
Teixeira lost his title at UFC 275 when he was submitted by Jiri Prochazka after what was on pace to be the 2022 Fight of The Year. The rematch between Teixeira and Prochazka was originally scheduled for the UFC 282 main event, however a major shoulder injury forced Prochazka to pull out of the fight and vacate his title due to the expected lengthy recovery time.
Due to Prochazka's withdrawal and subsequent title vacancy forced the UFC to offer Teixeira a bout against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 282 but the legendary Brazilian former champion asked for some more time to prepare for such a different style of opponent, a request which was denied by the UFC, who then pivoted to what we saw at UFC 282, former champion, Jan Blachowicz squaring off with the aforementioned Ankalaev for the vacant title.
However, the vacant title fight ended in a split-draw, which got quite the criticism from the promotions brash President, Dana White, who quickly announced during the event's post-show press conference that Teixeira will face Jamahal Hill in the main event of the company's first pay-per-view offering of 2023 in the form of UFC 283 on Saturday, January 21.
