Now, the new middleweight champion has issued a statement of his own on the historical win.

GSP is now expected to compete again some time in 2018 in a title unification match against UFC Interim Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker.

St-Pierre has set numerous records with his win. He became the first person to ever hold the UFC Middleweight and Welterweight titles, and tied Demetrious Johnson for consecutive wins in UFC Championship fights at 12. Jon Jones trails the two at 11.

With his historical win in the record books, the new middleweight champion is now just one of a handful of fighters to hold two belts in two different weight classes in the UFC.
