Hector Lombard Says Welterweight Run Was Stupid

MMA

Former Bellator MMA Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard hasn’t had the greatest of runs under the UFC banner.

Lombard has only earned three wins in the UFC and while his UFC Fight Night 105 bout will be a middleweight, Lombard admitted his run at welterweight was a bad one.

“It was a big mistake – what I did with the weight cut for 170 (pounds) messed me up, then I just took another fight so quick,” Lombard told MMA Junkie. “My body wasn’t ready. I didn’t want to go through that again. … I just couldn’t do 170 with no IVs and no recovery. That was insane. That was the past, and now I’m looking for the future.”

Lombard will be taking on former UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks at UFC Fight Night 105, in Hendricks' middleweight division debut. Poor UFC run aside, Lombard feels that he'll put on an exciting fight against the former welterweight champion.

“I expect him to come up strong,” Lombard said. “The weight cut was his issue. I think he’s going to be healthy and stronger and faster for this fight. He’s a big guy. He always struggled to cut that weight, same as me, so he’s going to be strong. I definitely am going to put on a show. I always go for the show. Even if I’m dying, I’m going to put on a show.”

UFC Fight Night 105 takes place on Sunday, February 19 from the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada with Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne headlining. Fightful will be providing live coverage, plus a post-show podcast for the event.
