Former UFC veteran, and current Glory MMA head coach, James Krause, was not allowed to corner bantamweight Miles Johns at this past Saturday night's UFC Vegas 65 event.
Shortly after defeating Vince Morales via unanimous decision, Johns told UFC Hall of Famer and current commentator, Michael Bisping, that the promotion had banned Krause from cornering him prior to the event.
“My coach (James Krause), last night at the dinner table, got pulled," Johns said (h/t Bloody Elbow). "And they said the UFC was suspending him so he couldn’t be here in my corner."
Krause being banned from Johns' corner apparently stems from his role in the ongoing investigation into suspicious betting activities surrounding the bout between, Darrick Minner and Shayilan Nuerdanbieke at UFC Vegas 64 earlier this month. Krause was in Minner's corner for the matchup.
ESPN's Marc Raimondi provided additional reporting on the situation revealing that Krause hasn't been "formally suspended" by the UFC or the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission). However, both parties have agreed that Krause shouldn't be cornering fights at this time. Last month, the UFC changed its official "Athlete Code of Conduct" which now prohibits fighters or any members of their teams from wagering on their bouts. The promotion provided ESPN with the following statement after this past weekend's event, with an update on the Minner-Nuerdanbieke investigation.
"The wagering activity around the Darrick Minner and Shayilan Nuerdanbieke bout from Nov. 5 remains under review by our betting integrity partner Don Best Sports. At this time, we have no information that either of the athletes involved in the bout, or anyone associated with their teams, was involved in any wrongdoing."
