Former UFC title challenger, Jared Cannonier, and Sean Strickland are now set to headline a yet-to-be-announced UFC Fight Night event on December 17 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Strickland confirmed the news himself via an interview with journalist Helen Yee, while UFC President Dana White also confirmed the booking during his weekly post-fight press conference on Tuesday night following the latest edition of his Contender Series show. The pair were originally scheduled to meet in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card on October 15 but had to postpone their meeting a few months due to Strickland getting an infection in one of his fingers. Cannonier is 5-2 since moving to 185 pounds back in November 2018 and will look to bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to reigning UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya at UFC 276 last month. Strickland on other hand is 5-1 since making his return to the middleweight division in October 2020 and is coming off of a first-round KO loss to former two-division Glory kickboxing champ, Alex Pereira, also back at UFC 276.
