Jessica Andrade Surprised Rose Namajunas Won At UFC 217

Rose Namajunas pulled one of the biggest upsets of 2017 when she scored a first round finish of Joanna Jedrzejczyk to win the UFC Women’s Strawweight Title at UFC 217.

One of the most stunned people by the result of the fight was Jessica Andrade, who was surprised by what happened in the Octagon.

“It was very surprising,” Andrade told MMA Fighting. “I didn’t imagine her winning, but it’s like I always say: every fight is different. Joanna probably wasn’t having a good day and Namajunas went there to win the belt and beat Joanna, and she did it.”

Andrade has already challenged for the title once before, losing to former champion Jedrzejczyk by decision at UFC 211.

The Brazilian fighting sensation also believes that Jedrzejczyk isn’t getting an immediate rematch against the new champion.

“I think it’s easier with Rose as the champion because you have new match-ups for the belt,” Andrade said. “I don’t believe the UFC will give Joanna a rematch because it makes no sense. She lost by knockout in the first round. (Jose) Aldo and Ronda (Rousey) lost like that and there was no rematch. I don’t think the UFC will make it.”

Despite what Andrade thinks of Jedrzejczyk getting an immediate rematch, the former champion has already called for one against Namajunas.
