Julianna Peña Out With Injury, Irene Aldana Steps In Against Amanda Nunes At UFC 289

Former UFC women's bantamweight champion, Julianna Peña, has been forced out of her upcoming trilogy bout with current two-division champ, Amanda Nunes, at UFC 289 on June 10 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada due to broken ribs.

UFC President Dana White was the first to break the news of Peña's injury and removal from the main event of next month's pay-per-view card via a video announcement on Tuesday. Nunes is 13-1 in her last fourteen fights and is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Peña, in their rematch at UFC 277 last July. Aldana meanwhile is 4-1 in her last five Octagon appearances and will look to build on a third-round KO win over Macy Chiasson at UFC 279 back in September. She was initially scheduled to take on former title challenger, Raquel Pennington, for a second time in the main event of UFC Vegas 73 on May 20, before she was announced as Peña's replacement.
