During the UFC 275 broadcast, the promotion announced the August UFC 278 PPV in Salt Lake City, Utah will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman, and Leon Edwards.

Edwards has been in line for a title shot for over two years now, and has patiently bided his time while waiting and choosing his fight very carefully. He was last seen defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 263 in June of 2021. Usman's dominance atop the welterweight division, as he's defended his title five times, and is trailing only Georges St. Pierre in term of welterweight defenses.
UFC 278 is scheduled for the Vivant Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Usman/Edwards headliner will be supported by the return of Luke Rockhold vs. Paulo Costa in the co-main event.
