Kevin Lee on Pre-Fight Adjustments: "It Still Wasn't Enough"

MMA

In his Welterweight debut, Kevin Lee fell short, submitting to Rafael dos Anjos in the UFC Fight Night Rochester main event.

After losing to Al Iaquinta in December 2018, Lee finally made the much-discussed move to 170lbs. However, dos Anjos proved too much, wearing 'The Motown Phenom' down and eventually closing the show with an Arm Triangle Choke in round four. The defeat is obviously a devastating one, making it two straight and suddenly leaving Lee unsure of his next move.

“I don’t know what happened out there tonight," Lee admitted in a post-fight Instagram video. "Thought I did everything right leading up to this fight, tried to eliminate every little distraction, everything that wasn’t good for me. I swear I felt like something, everything was falling into place . . . and it still wasn’t enough. This s**t sometimes be like the highest highs and lowest lows. This s**t really make you question what you believe in. I don’t know, I’ve been through a lot of s**t in my life. This ain’t really gonna be s**t.”

Losing three of his last four, Lee's momentum has come to a screeching halt since his memorable interim title fight with Tony Ferguson. Lee's defeat that night left most onlookers undeterred, with analysts predicting titles in his future until this result slump in form. As for Dos Anjos, this submission win snapped a two fight losing streak of his own, now looking to rebuild after dropping decisions to Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman respectively.
