UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov decided to hop the Octagon wall after successfully defending the title against Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229, which started a wild brawl between both fighters teams.
The champion had one major goal during the fight, which was to show the difference between his people and Conor’s people.
“The first thing I wanted to show him, is the difference between our people, and his people. We know our history, our ancestors, and what our people have been through. Nothing can break us,” Nurmagomedov said to Russia Today.
Nurmagomedov has already seen his fight purse withheld due to the post-fight actions, with more punishment possibly on the way.
As far as what happened after the fight, a confident Nurmagomedov says that you can’t keep an eagle confined to a cage.
“And with what happened afterwards, some people say I did the wrong thing, others that I did the right thing,” he said. “You can’t confine an eagle to a cage. And I showed them that.”
McGregor made things personal with Nurmagomedov in big ways during the lead up to the bout, insulting the fighter’s family and religion, among other things.
