Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently ranked #1 in the UFC Lightweight Division rankings and according to his father, he is willing to face the #2 ranked Tony Ferguson to prove that a lightweight title shot should be his.
There is one catch though -- the fight must happen in the next three months because Khabib is unwilling to wait to take the fight.
"We will not wait longer than 3 months,” Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov told MMA News (h/t Magomed Edilsultanov for accurate translation). “We'll wait for 3 months and at the 4th, we need an opponent. Let them give us any opponent. Even at 77kgs (welterweight). At this moment, it is better to fight with Ferguson -- just to nail this thing down.”
Nurmagomedov and Ferguson were previously scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 91 earlier this year, but Nurmagomedov was pulled from the card due to injury, Ferguson would go onto defeat Landon Vanatta at the event. Current UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor doesn't look to be back in the cage until next summer as he awaits the birth of his first child.
If the fight were to come to fruition, Ferguson would enter the fight riding a nine fight winning streak, while Nurmagomedov is currently undefeated at 24-0-0 and that undefeated streak has last a grand total of eight-plus years time.
