Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington Targeted For UFC 291 In July

A title fight between UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards and former interim champ Colby Covington is potentially being targeted to headline UFC 291 on July 22 in London, England.

SI's Justin Barrasso was the first to report the news of the matchup being in the works on Friday, however, the promotion has yet to officially announce anything regarding the event or bout. Edwards is 11-0-1 in his last 12 Octagon appearances and will look to build off a majority decision win over former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, in their trilogy bout at UFC 286 earlier this month in London. Covington meanwhile is 2-2 in his last four fights and is coming off a unanimous decision victory over former two-time title challenger, Jorge Masvidal, at UFC 272 back in March 2022.
