Marcin Tybura Says Patience Paid Off At UFC 209

Heavyweight fighter Marcin Tybura earned his second win in the UFC at UFC 209 when he finished Luis Henrique with strikes in the third round.

Tybura believes that the patience he showed in the Octagon is what got him the victory.

“We planned to fight in the standup, mostly,” Tybura said after UFC 209. “I knew the physical strength would be on his side. When we went to the clinch, I felt strong. But every time we did, I felt him get weaker and weaker. I knew I would finish the fight because his cardio was worse than mine. I knew I could go to the third round, so that was not a problem. I had to wait for him to tire a little bit. I just had to stick to the plan.”

The Tybura/Henrique bout was one of three heavyweight fights at UFC 209. One thing that Tybura didn’t expect from Henrique was the Brazilian's reliance on the clinch game.

“I didn’t expect my opponent would go to the clinch so much,” Tybura said. “I would have preferred to stand up with him (more). I don’t know if it was exciting to watch, but I’m happy to win. But I was really happy to be in the octagon and win the fight.”

While Tybura earned a second win in the UFC at UFC 209, it was the second UFC loss for Henrique.
