Rua, who insinuated that he won the bout during a post-fight interview, expects to have a rematch with Craig.
“Absolutely,” Rua said on the post-fight show (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “I just have to see if the UFC wants that. Do they agree with that rematch? If they do, I’m ready for a rematch.”
The scorecards for the three round affair read 29-28 for Rua, 28-29 for Craig and finally 28-28 to deem the bout a split draw.
Craig, who accepted the bout on short notice, also would like a rematch with the former light heavyweight champion.
“There are rumors that UFC Glasgow is going to happen,” Craig said at the post-fight press conference. “That’d be my hometown. If I did that in a two-week fight camp, what can I do with an eight-week training camp? Is there any opportunity to fight ‘Shogun’ Rua again? Only he’d be able to tell you that because I’d take that fight in a heartbeat. (But) with how his face was looking after that fight, I can’t see him accepting that fight.”
Both Rua and Craig fought a grand total of 55 times as professional MMA fighters and their encounter was the first time either competed to a draw.
