During Bellator's Friday Bellator 193 show, the company announced a major title fight for this Spring.
Brent Primus will make the first defense of his Bellator Lightweight Championship since winning it from Michael Chandler at 2017's Bellator NYC show. His opponent? The former champion himself in Chandler. The two will do battle on April 13 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
The fight was offered to Chandler late last year, but he passed it up, according to Primus.
"My manager) called and said Chandler completely declined the rematch and wants to fight at 170 in the same month. I thought that was so weird. I was in shock. I was already game planning for our rematch and find out he's fighting at 155 (again) in January. What was even crazier is he did an interview and told everyone that I'm running from him. Everybody's believing him," Primus told us late last year.
Primus (8-0) won the fight over Chandler (17-4) at Bellator NYC when Chandler sprained his foot in the first round of the fight, and was unable to continue, causing a TKO. Primus has been steadfast that he's trained the technique that led to the sprain after facing the heat of detractors.
Also announced Friday night was a battle between former three-time Bellator Champion Joe Warren (15-6) and Joe Taimanglo (23-8-1) for the Bellator 195 show on March 2 from the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Warren has alternated wins and losses since 2014, while Taimanglo has dropped his last two fights.
