A lightweight division attraction is the latest addition to the UFC 221 card as Mizuto Hirota is going to be in action against Ross Pearson.
Hirota (18-8-2) has only won just one of three fights under the UFC banner and that lone win came over Cole Miller at UFC On Fox 22. Hirota is making his lightweight division debut in this fight because all of the previous bouts in the UFC came at featherweight. Hirota has also seen all of his bouts in the UFC go the distance and it has been almost four years since the fighter got a finish.
Pearson (19-14-0-1NC) enters the bout on a four fight losing streak and he hasn’t earned a win in almost two years. Pearson also won the UFC Ultimate Fighter 9, defeating Andre Winner by unanimous decision to win the reality show. Pearson’s last win in the promotion came via split decision over Chad Laprise at UFC Fight Night 85 in March of 2016.
UFC 221 takes place on Saturtday, February 10 from the Perth Arena in Perth, Australia with Robert Whittaker and Luke Rockhold headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
