Nate’s brother Nick Diaz says that Masvidal isn’t the true BMF Champion, because that honor belongs to him.
“The BMF, the 170, that’s my belt,” Diaz said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “But I’m not going to get in my brothers way of taking it. As far as I’m concerned that’s my belt. … This ain’t up to no UFC. We’ve seen that in the past already. I don’t need to do anything more than what I’ve already done here. I don’t know what to tell you people. All I know is I’ve got a whole lot of people who feel the same way.”
Masvidal does seem interested in a potential bout with Nick for the BMF Championship, as the fighter issued the following video on Instagram through his manager in Malki Kawa:
The duo of Nick and Masvidal were linked together for a fight earlier this year at UFC 235, but Diaz issued a statement to say that he hadn’t signed a contract for the bout or committed to it in any way. Nick hasn’t competed since UFC 183 in January of 2015, where he fought former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva to a no contest after both failed drug tests.
