Oscar De La Hoya has found himself to be a successful promoter with Golden Boy Promotions, but now the legendary boxer is transitioning into mixed martial arts with Golden Boy MMA.
This isn’t the boxing greats first foray into MMA, as he helped promote the Affliction MMA events over a decade ago.
De La Hoya also has a fight in mind for the Golden Boy MMA banner and that would be a third encounter between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.
”We’re talking some business,” De La Hoya said to TMZ. “It’s no secret that I love what MMA fighters do. I want to get into the MMA business. I want to start Golden Boy MMA. Imagine Tito and Chuck once again, it would be huge.”
Liddell won the first two bouts of the series, defeating Ortiz at both UFC 47 and UFC 66, with both victories coming by way of TKO.
The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion was rumored to be going to Bellator MMA, but now has another chance to beat up his longtime rival in a different setting.
“I’m making a comeback for sure,” Liddell said. “Tito [Ortiz] is always my favorite. One, he’s easy. Two, I never get tired of hitting the guy and people never get tired of seeing it.”
There is no date yet when the first Golden Boy MMA or Lidell vs. Ortiz III fight could happen.
