MMA

VanZant is the culprit behind the fights potential cancelation because she has suffered an injury. The nature of that injury has yet to be revelaed.

The UFC posted an update about the situation Monday afternoon.

Due to injury, Paige VanZant has been forced to withdraw from her UFC 216 bout against Jessica Eye on Oct. 8.

Eye has seen a string of bad luck in her recent attempts to fight again in the UFC, with her bout against Invicta FC veteran Aspen Ladd canceled the day before UFC 213.

UFC On Fox 22 was the last time that VanZant fought and she was submitted by Michelle Waterson, while Eye hasn’t competed since a decision loss to Bethe Correia at UFC 203.

This would have been the second women’s flyweight bout in UFC history.

UFC 216 takes place on Saturday, October 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
