Former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos recently announced that he’s moving to the welterweight division.
Dos Anjos, while training for his divisional debut, is currently training with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach.
“I am taking this time (training with Freddie Roach) to sharpen my skills and improve even more as a fighter,” Dos Anjos stated to MMA Junkie. “Life is hard; you have to learn every day. If you don’t improve, your opponents will. So I am doing my part to be ahead of the game.”
The former champion last competed at UFC Fight Night 98, where he lost a unanimous decision at Tony Ferguson.
It will still be a little while before MMA fans get to see Dos Anjos make his welterweight debut, but the fighter is feeling good training at his new weight class.
“I still need some time to adjust my body to compete in this new division, but I’ve never felt so good,” dos Anjos stated. “I know I’ll have a good path at 170 pounds. I just need to keep focused and embrace the opportunities. I’ll retrace my path to the title.”
Dos Anjos won the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 185, where he defeated Anthony Pettis by unanimous decision.
