It’s no secret by now the UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson has issued a long statement speaking out against the UFC and the way the promotion handles its business.
One fighter that has come to the forefront to support the champion is fellow flyweight Ray Borg.
“That’s actually where I gained respect for him,” Borg told MMA Junkie Radio. “And some fans are seeing it. Because he is respecting the division, and the rankings, by wanting to fight me.”
Prior to UFC President Dana White suggesting that Johnson defend the flyweight gold against former UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw, the next challenger for the gold was rumored to be Borg.
Borg knows that whether it comes sooner or later, a UFC Flyweight Title shot is coming his way someday.
“I’ll get a title shot regardless,” Borg said. “Whether I have to wait, two more fights, one more fight, it doesn’t matter. I’m going to get a title shot before D.J. is done fighting.”
No matter who the champion defends the gold against next, history could be made in the UFC as one more successful title defense for “Mighty Mouse” would break the record for most successful title defenses in the UFC.
