A middleweight division attraction has been rebooked for UFC 257 as #13 (Tied) Brad Tavares faces Antonio Carlos Jr.
MMA Junkie first reported the bout, as the encounter was originally set for UFC Fight Night Brasilia until both were eventually pulled from the card after suffering knee injuries.
Tavares (17-6-0) enters the contest while in the midst of a two fight losing streak, having dropped bouts to the duo of Israel Adesanya and Edmen Shahbazyan. Tavares hasn’t won a bout in over two years, with that last win coming over Krzysztof Jotko a UFC On Fox 29. Tavares has picked up seventeen wins as a professional MMA fighter and more than half of them came by way of decision.
Carlos Jr. (10-4-0-1NC) also comes into the contest riding a two fight losing streak, dropping bouts to Ian Heinisch and Uriah Hall. Carlos Jr. was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3, defeating Vitor Miranda in the finals of the reality show. Carlos Jr. has earned ten wins as a professional MMA fighter and eight of them came via submission.
UFC 257 takes place on Saturday, January 23 from a location to be announced and with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
