Report: Bellator MMA & Marcos Galvao Part Ways

Marcos Galvao served as the Bellator MMA Bantamweight Champion at one point in his tenure with the company, which has now come to an end.

A report from MMA Fighting is stating that the promotion has opted not to re-sign the former bantamweight champion once his contract expired, which happened sometime after the fighter competed this past December.

Galvao earned an 8-6-0 record in the promotion (18-9-1 overall), with notable wins coming over Chase Beebe, Ed West, Joe Warren and LC Davis. Galvao captured the Bellator MMA Bantamweight Title at Bellator 135, submitting Joe Warren in the second round with a knee bar.

Bellator 189 was the last time the former champion fought for the organization, suffering a unanimous decision loss to UFC veteran Sam Sicilia. Galvao would finish his run in Bellator MMA in the featherweight division, racking up a 1-2-0 record in that weight class.

The competitor had seen his last four fights in the company go the distance and it has been almost three years since the fighter got a finish.

Now that Galvao is an unrestricted free agent, it leaves the Brazilian and former Bellator MMA Bantamweight Champion free to negotiate and compete in whatever promotion he would like to sign with.
