Report: Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant Undisputed Title Fight Targeted For September

An undisputed super middleweight title bout between champions Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant is close to being finalized.

According to a report from ESPN's Mike Coppinger, the matchup to crown an undisputed king at 168 pounds is being targeted for September 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will be presented on pay-per-view by the PBC on Fox. Sources told Coppinger that Alvarez has been offered a one-fight deal with PBC promoter Al Haymon to make the Plant fight possible, a deal that is apparently landing Alvarez the biggest payday of his career.

Alvarez is the current WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight champion sporting a 56-1-2 overall record as a pro. He's coming off of an eighth-round stoppage victory over Billy Joe Saunders on May 8 after the British boxer suffered a fractured right orbital bone during the fight. Plant on the other hand is the reigning IBF super middleweight champion and the Ashland City, Tennessee native is currently undefeated as a pro at 21-0. His last outing was a unanimous decision victory against Caleb Truax on January 30.
