A champion versus champion super fight is going to headline UFC 232 according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN as Cyborg defends the UFC Women’s Featherweight Title against UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes.
Cyborg (20-1-0-1NC) is going to be making the third defense of her championship, last defending it against Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222. Cyborg has only suffered a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came to Erica Paes in May of 2005. Cyborg has also held the Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Title and the Invicta FC Featherweight Title, defeating Marloes Coenen and Hitomi Akano to start both reigns.
Nunes (16-4-0) is going to be making her UFC Featherweight Division debut in this fight, but the Brazilian has competed in the weight class outside of the UFC. Nunes became the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion at UFC 200, defeating Miesha Tate by first round submission. Nunes enters the fight riding a seven bout winning streak and she hasn’t suffered a defeat in almost four years.
UFC 232 takes place on Saturday, December 29 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Cyborg and Amanda Nunes headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
