However, it would appear that Pineda’s upcoming bout against Lance Palmer in the finals could be in jeopardy.
MMA Junkie is reporting that Pineda has failed a drug test issued by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). It is unknown at this time as to what illegal substance that Pineda allegedly failed for, but the failure will most likely knock Pineda from the PFL Season 2 Featherweight Finals.
Jason House, who is Pineda’s manager, issued the following statement to MMA Junkie:
“Right now we’re in the process of researching what could have led to a positive test. We plan on appealing the decision once all information is gathered.”
If House and Pineda can successfully appeal the drug test in time, it would clear Pineda to compete against Palmer in the finals on New Years Eve.
There has been no official statement yet from either the PFL or the NAC on Pineda’s failed drug test. It is also unknown at this time as to who could replace Pineda in the finals if the appeal does not come out in the fighter’s favor.
