A bantamweight division attraction that was originally set for UFC Fight Night Belem has been rescheduled for UFC 222 according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal as #8 John Dodson faces #10 Pedro Munhoz.
The bout at UFC Fight Night Belem was canceled after Munhoz came in four pounds overweight and Dodson decided against fighting an overweight opponent. Munhoz was one of two fighters to miss weight for the Belem card, with Michel Prazeres being the other one.
Dodson (19-9-0) has won two of four since returning to the bantamweight division, with those two wins coming over Eddie Wineland and Manny Gamburyan. Dodson has twice before challenged for the UFC Flyweight Title, losing both times to Demetrious Johnson at UFC On Fox 6 and UFC 191.
Munhoz (15-2-0-1NC) enters the fight on the strength of a four bout winning streak, last defeating Rob Font at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo. Munhoz is a former Resurrection Fighting Alliance Bantamweight Champion, defeating Jeff Curran to win the belt at RFA 9.
UFC 222 takes place on Saturday, March 3 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
