A welterweight division attraction has been added to UFC 239 according to Ariel Helwani of ESPN as #4 Jorge Masvidal is going to be in action against #5 Ben Askren.
Masvidal (33-13-0) has won just one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Darren Till at UFC Fight Night London. Masvidal hasn’t picked up a win on a pay-per-view card in almost three years, with his last such win coming at UFC 201 in July of 2016. Masvidal has suffered thirteen losses as a professional MMA fighter and ten of them have come by way of decision.
Askren (19-0-0-1NC) has competed just once in the UFC, defeating former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler by first round submission at UFC 235. Askren is a former One Championship Welterweight Champion and a former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion, but relinquished both belts upon signing with different promotions. Askren has competed nineteen times as a professional MMA fighter and only seven of those encounters went the distance.
UFC 239 takes place on Saturday, July 6 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Jon Jones and Thiago Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
