MMA

It was announced recently that Humberto Bandenay is off UFC Fight Night Sydney due to an injury, leaving Alexander Volkanovski without an opponent.

However, a report by Farrah Hannoun says Shane Young has agreed to step in on short notice to fight Volkanovski in a catchweight division bout.

Volkanovski (15-1-0) is also undefeated thus far in UFC competition, defeating the duo of Yusuke Kasuya and Mizuto Hirota. Volkanovski is also a former Pacific Xtreme Combat Featherweight Champion, which he won by defeating Yusuke Yachi at PXC 50 in December 2015. Volkanovski has only seen three of his sixteen professional MMA fights go the distance and the last one of his fights to do so took place earlier this year at UFC Fight Night 110.

Young (11-3-0) is going to be making his UFC debut in this fight and he does so while riding a five fight winning streak. Young has only fought one UFC veteran prior to signing with the promotion and that was a loss to Damien Brown at Xtreme Fighting Championships 23 in 2015. Young went undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter and he also held the Industry Of Combat New Zealand Featherweight Title at that time.

UFC Fight Night Sydney takes place on Saturday, November 18 from the Qudus Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia with Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
