Abdul Razak Alhassan kicked off the pay-per-view portion of UFC 228 with a first round knockout victory over Niko Price.
However, approximately five months before that bout, it was Alhassan who was freed from jail on a $20,000 bail bond for a sexual assault charge. Alhassan was able to train and fight at UFC 228 because the judge in the cage modified the terms of the bail.
A report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is stating that Alhassan has now been indicted on two counts of sexual assault this past Monday. The UFC star has been accused of driving two intoxicated women to the younger person’s home from the Varsity Tavern bar, aged 20 and 22, before allegedly raping both of them.
Alhassan served as head of security for the Varsity Tavern and the women were there taking part in a party for a Fort Worth police officer.
According to the report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, it was the 22 year old woman who convinced Alhassan to let her and the 20 year old into the bar for the party and Alhassan asked for the phone number of the older woman, which he got. The 20 year old recalls seeing the 22 year old, after both had consumed a lot of alcohol, making out with Alhassan in a closet at the bar.
The 20 year old then remembers Alhassan taking them both to her home and then thought the UFC fighter had left. However, after getting a drink of water, it was the younger woman who saw Alhassan standing behind her. That would lead to Alhassan grabbing the woman from behind and shoving her face first into the bed, before holding the woman face down and raping her.
After the rape of the 20 year old, it was Alhassan who then moved onto the 22 year old woman and raped her. Once the second rape ended, it was the 20 year old woman who located her mother, who was in the house. The 20 year old told her that something was wrong with the 22 year old woman, who was vomiting and partially undressed at this point in time.
There was a used condom found by the mother and she quickly placed it in a zip-lock bag, which would be given to the authorities. Authorities would interview the 22 year old woman first and then the 20 year old woman a day later, it was the 20 year old who said she was raped. The 20 year old also remembered more details after sobering up, which was also told to the police.
The police officer who was holding the party in the bar remembers dancing with one of the alleged victims before they left and has also stated that he remembers Alhassan getting them to the car. The owner of the Varsity Tavern said to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Alhassan had quit his job there months ago due to personal issues.
No comments have been given yet by the UFC or Alhassan on the charges.
A short ime after the original story came out, a statement was issued by the attorney representing Alhassan, saying the fighter plans on pleading not guilty to the charges.
“We do intend to plead not guilty and have a trial and let a jury determine what the facts are,” Brandon Barnett told MMA Junkie.
