A 2012 Golden Gloves champion, Davis made his pro debut in 2013. With Floyd Mayweather by his side, Davis has become a powerful force, winning 24 of 25 fights via KO. Davis won the IBF Super-Featherweight Title in 2017 and the WBA belt in 2018 against Jesus Cuellar. He defended the title twice, won the WBA (Regular) Super-Lightweight Title against Yuriorkis Gamboa, and the WBA (Super) Super-Featherweight Title against Leo Santa Cruz.
Davis' last fight was a TKO win against Mario Barrios in June.
Cruz made his debut in 2015. After losing the sixth fight of his career, Cruz has gone 17-0-1. He fought twice in 2021, beating Jose Matias Romero and Francisco Vargas via unanimous decision.
Davis was originally supposed to face Rolando Romero, but the latter was removed from the fight following sexual harassment allegations.
