A huge upset in the boxing world.
Teofimo Lopez defeated the dominant Vasiliy Lomachenko over 12 hectic rounds on Saturday night to capture the undisputed lightweight champion at the MGM Grand Conference Center. In winning the title, Lopez, just 23 years old, becomes the youngest four-belt champion since WBO's inception.
Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) had a strong start, and had to slow down a late Lomachenko charge in able to stave the champion off on the scorecards. He'd do just that, taking home 117-111, 119-109 and 116-112 scorecards to earn the unanimous decision victory. In the loss, Lomachenko falls to 14-2. He has ten knockouts on his record.
Several fighters sounded off on the upset.
