Play-by-Play

Jan Blachowicz (C) vs. (#1) Glover Teixeira

Round One - Glover opens up the action with a pair of jabs that both land and Jan lands a straight left in response, Glover goes for the takedown and gets it and immediately gains top control. Glover looks for a transition but isn't in a rush to advance and looks comfortable to eat up some clock for the time-being. Glover stands to create some separation and lands a slicing elbow across the cheek of Jan before settling back in top control. Glover again creates separation and lands a left hand before again settling back in top control until the buzzer sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two - Glover throws a wild right hand to open the action here in the second-round and Jan just misses a counter left hook, Glover shoots for the takedown but is stuffed by Jan, who keeps the fight on the feet. Glover latches onto Jan and presses him against the fence but Jan turns momentum and forces a break before circling back to the center of the octagon, Glover shoots right back in for the takedown but Jan again stuffs the attempt and gets back to the center of the cage but Glover drills him with a left hook that stuns Jan, Glover lands a straight right and uses it to try for a takedown, which he gets and unloads ground and pound, Jan turns to his stomach, Glover sinks in the rear-naked choke and Jan taps. We have a NEW UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. What a performance from the 42-year old.

(#1) Petr Yan vs. (#3) Cory Sandhagen

Round One - Yan opens up pushing the pace but Sandhagen lands first with a straight right to open the action. Yan narrowly missed a left hook and Sandhagen returns fire with an uppercut to the body then dives in for a takedown but Yan holds his ground for the time-being and Sandhagen pushes him against the fence and just missed a left uppercut on the break. Sandhagen lands a straight right then goes for another takedown but is shoved aside by Yan and the buzzer sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two - Yan pushes the action to begin round number two and unloads on Sandhagen with a heavy kick to the body but the Colorado-native responds with a straight right that stops Yan in his tracks. Sandhagen lands a straight right, Yan responds with a left hook, eats a right hook from Sandhagen then responds with an overhand left in a crazy exchange. Sandhagen shoots for a double-leg but is stuffed by Yan, who lands a straight right on the break but Sandhagen responds with a right hook of his own. Yan whiffs on an overhand right but lands a left hook, Sandhagen counters with one of his own at the buzzer.

Round Three - Sandhagen wobbles Yan with a straight left, Yan responds with an overhand right but just misses, Sandhagen plants a kick to the lead leg of Yan but Yan drills him with a left hook to the body to halt the momentum. Sandhagen switches up stances with regularity and lands a straight right on the bridge of Yan's nose. Yan misses a high-kick but blasts Sandhagen with a spinning back-fist that sends Sandhagen to the mat, Yan goes for the finish, Sandhagen is doing a decent job of avoiding ground and pound, Yan gets the back but Sandhagen sweeps him and gets back to the feet with 10-seconds left in the round, Yan lands a straight left but the buzzer sounds to send this one to championship rounds.

Round Four - Sandhagen looks to be mostly recovered to begin this round, he goes for a flying knee, misses but hits Yan with an uppercut to the body but Yan counters with a left hook that lands. Yan drills Sandhagen with a 1-2 but Sandhagen dives in for a takedown, gets it, goes for a heel-hook but Yan rolls out and quickly gets back to his feet. Sandhagen misses a step-in elbow then immediately throws another which lands. Sandhagen missed a spinning back-fist and Yan takes advantage and lights up Sandhagen's body with a flurry of shots. Sandhagen shoots back in for another takedown, Yan stuffs the attempt and gets control of Sandhagen's back but Sandhagen scrambles back to his feet, where Yan just missed a high kick but lands an overhand left at the buzzer.

Round Five - Yan keeps up the pressure to open the final frame, Sandhagen leaps for a jumping knee that partially lands to the body of Yan, who lands a body kick in response. Yan drills Sandhagen with a kick to the body, Sandhagen responds with a right hook that finds a home, Yan lands a left uppercut and Sandhagen throws another flying knee, Yan responds with a spinning back kick, Sandhagen throws ANOTHER flying knee and the buzzer sounds to end this thrilling title fight.

(#5) Islam Makhachev vs. (#6) Dan Hooker

Round One - Hooker comes out the aggressor, landing a pair of jabs directly on the nose of Makhachev. Hooker lands a kick to the lead leg of Makhachev but the Russian-contender uses it to his advantage and lands the takedown and immediately gets to half guard. Makhachev works for the kimura and locks it in and Hooker is forced to tap. Islam Makhachev makes a statement to every lightweight in the world.

Result: (#5) Islam Makhachev def. (#6) Dan Hooker by submission via kimura (2:25, R1)

(#5) Alexander Volkov vs. (#8) Marcin Tybura

Round One - Volkov opens up with a kick to the body and follows it up with a left hook that just misses. Tybura shoots for a takedown but Volkov shoves him aside and lands a straight left on the break. Tybura goes right back in with another takedown attempt but ends up clinching Volkov against the fence, but Volkov powers away and drills Tybura with a straight left on the break. Volkov misses a straight right, Tybura shoots for another takedown but Volkov trips him and ends up in top control. Volkov transitions to half guard, creates a bit of separation and lands a pair of slicing elbows but the buzzer sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two - Tybura pushes the pace early but walks right into a straight right from Volkov. Tybura goes right back in for a takedown but is shunned aside yet again by Volkov, who steps-in and lands an overhand left but Tybura dives back in for yet another takedown attempt, Volkov steps aside and presses Tybura against the fence, who gets nailed with an elbow on the break by Volkov, who's now turned aside all nine takedown attempts from Tybura per the UFC broadcast. Tybura lands a pair of nice left hands, Volkov responds with a side kick to the body and Tybura dives back in for a takedown but Volkov stymies the attempt for a tenth time as the buzzer sounds to send this one to a third and final round.

Round Three - *Technical Difficulties*

Result: (#5) Alexander Volkov def. (#8) Marcin Tybura via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

(#11) Li Jingliang vs. Khamzat Chimaev

Round One - Chimaev immediately shoots for a takedown, Jingliang holds his ground but Chimaev is able to lift and drop Jingliang on the mat and latches onto his back. Jingliang shoved himself to the fence but Chimaev sweeps and gains the back, where he tries to latch in a hook. Jingling gets to a knee and shoves himself to the side but Chimaev doesn't seem to be going anywhere and keeps the back. Chimaev uses punches to loosen up Jingliang's wrist lock and looks for the neck, Jingliang rolls to his stomach and Chimaev starts reigning down ground and pound, Jingliang gives up the neck, Chimaev gets under it and sinks in the rear-naked choke, Jingliang rolls around, gets out but Chimaev re-adjusts and Jingliang goes out cold. What a performance from Khamzat Chimaev.

(#7) Magomed Ankalaev vs. (#8) Volkan Oezdemir

Round One - Ankalaev opens the action with right hook that partially lands. Oezdemir steps-in and drills Ankalaev with a straight right and follows it up with left hook that stuns Ankalaev, who latches onto Oezdemir, who just misses a flying knee and Ankalaev presses him against the fence. Oezdemir powers out of the clinch, lands a left out of the break and the pair circle back to the center of the octagon. Ankalaev fakes a right and sends Oezdemir to the mat with a straight left, Oezdemir quickly gathers himself and gets back to the feet without taking anymore damage. Ankalaev lands another left that wobbles Oezdemir, who throws a spinning back kick as the buzzer sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two - Oezdemir throws a wild left, Ankalaev grabs the back of the neck and drills the midsection of Oezdemir with knees. Oezdemir begins to mix up his stances from orthodox to southpaw as he sports a pretty gnarly cut on his left eye that's starting to leak pretty bad as Ankalaev lands yet another left hand. Oezdemir goes for a kick to the body, Ankalaev catches the leg, shoves Oezdemir to the mat, latches onto his back but Oezdemir pushes himself back to the fence and gets back to his feet. Ankalaev eats some clock in the clinch, lands a nice elbow on the break as the buzzer sounds to end round number two.

Round Three - Oezdemir opens the final frame with a high kick that's blocked by Ankalaev, who returns fire with a stabbing front kick to the body. Oezdemir shoots for a takedown but is pushed aside with ease by Ankalaev, who lands a straight left and follows it up with another front kick to the body. Oezdemir has yet to show the urgency that many think he's needs to be displaying as he's probably down two rounds to none as the final 90-seconds approach. Ankalaev lands a straight right, Oezdemir whiffs on a right uppercut and Ankalaev makes him pay by landing a straight left and a right hook to follow suit. The final 10-second signal comes and Ankalaev shoots for a takedown and pushes Oezdemir against the fence as the final round comes to a close.
