Play-by-Play
(#4) Cory Sandhagen vs. (#10) Song Yadong
Round One - Sandhagen shoots for a takedown 20 seconds in, but its stuffed by Song, and they clinch against the cage. They separate and Sandhagen misses with a spin kick attempt and Song responds with a kick of his own. Song hits a heavy counter right, and Sandhagen shoots again, but its stuffed. Sandhagen's third attempt results with Song getting on top, and briefly gets the back in the scramble. Backon the feet, and Sandhagen behinds to snipe from range. Solid round, but I think Song landed the heavier shots. 10-9 Song.
Round Two - Sandhagen tries to stay at range and snipe as Song waks him down. Multiple Sandhagen takedown attempts are stuffed, and then an elbow from Sandhagen opens up a brutal cut above Song's left eyebrow. Cut looks very bad, and Song doesn't land very much in the final minute after the cut was opened. Clear 10-9 Sandhagen. 19-19 overall.
Round Three - Doctor comes in to check on the cut between rounds, and we're allowed to continue. Sandhagen continues to stay outside and jab, only to come in to either shoot a takedown, or attempt an up elbow. Sandhagen now has Song guessing on his entries, and is drawing out masive reactions. Song is having major issues getting inside Sandhagen's range, but he's hunting heavy shots, and constantly moving forward. Landed jump knee by Sandhagen to close the round. 10-9 Sandhagen. 29-28 overall.
Round Four - Doctor in once again to check the cut on Song, which has gotten worse, but we continue. Song blitzes forward showing urgency. Song catches a kick and kicks out the plant leg to get a takedown. Sandhagen scrambles back to his feed immediately. Song lands multiple heavy shots and has Sandhagen on his backfoot. Sandhagen finally secures a takedown and spends the remaining 90 seconds in top position. 10-9 Sandhagen, 39-37 Overall. This cut is awful, and the doctor calls an end to the fight.
Result: (#4) Cory Sandhagen def. (#10) Song Yadong via doctor stoppage (cuts) (5:00, R4)
Chidi Njoukani vs. Gregory Rodrigues
Round One - Njoukani opens up with multiple front kicks, then ROCKS Rodrigues with a brutal knee that cuts him open, but somehow Rodrigues stays on his feet. Rodrigues tries to clinch up and stall there to get his senses. Njoukani catches him with another countershot but Rodrigues explodes and dropps Njoukani with a great right cross. Wild exchanges as both men seem hurt, and they clinch up to end the round before each man tries to land a heavy shot on the bell.
Round Two - As we see the cut on Rodrigues between rounds its one of the worst I've ever seen and the doctor checks before we start. After a few exchanges to start the round, Rodrigues hits a beautiful hip toss style takedown. From there, Njoukani didn't have much left, and heavy ground and pound got the finish for Robocop. This fight was dope as hell, and Robocop is rapidly becoming a fan favorite.
Result: Gregory Rodrigues def. Chidi Njoukani via TKO (strikes) (1:28, R2)
Andre Fili vs. Bill Algeo
Round One - The two trade kicks and jabs, while showboating over the first minute. Attempted spin kick by Algeo is mostly blocked, while Fili landing power shots in return. Fili lands a headkick he disguises behind a jab, and Algeo shoots and is stuffed. After they return to their feet, Fili lands yet another head kick, a little cleaner than the last, but Algeo eats this one. Algeois cut on his hairline from one of the headkicks but is able to return fire and land. Very entertaining round, but outstanding from Fili. 10-9 Fili.
Round Two - They begin sparring with jabs to begin the round before we pause to fix Fili's glove. Fili consistently moving forward, jabbing and stuffing a few half hearted takedowns from Algeo. Algeo backs up Fili with a strong knee to the body and they clinch along the cage. Excellent action both ways as Algeo turns up the pace. Spinning back heel kick from Algeo lands behind Fili's ear, but Fili eats it. Lots more jabs from Algeo as Fili responds with leg kicks and jabs of his own. Very fun round that either man could get, but I'll give it to Algeo. 19-19
Round Three - To start the round the trade body kicks and jabs, and Fili catches Algeo with a mean check hook. Fili with a brilliant shot takedown. Fili transitions immediately to the back and looks to be deep on a rear-naked choke. Algeo breaks the grip and tries to punch Fili over his shoulder, while Fili attempts to find another. Fili spends the rest of the round on Algeo's back, and while Algeo landed 40+ strikes to the man on his back. 10-9 Fili and 29-28 for the fight. Very fun fight, maybe the best of the night so far.
Result: Andre Fili def. Bill Algeo via split-decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Joe Pyfer vs. Alen Amedovski
Round One - Lots of activity on the feet for the first half of the round with Pyfer landing the heavier shots, but nothing being tremendously significant. Pyfer is walking Amedovski down and has him against the fence. Hunting for the heavy right hand Pyfer throws a lead uppercut, and follows it with a crushing overhand right to drop Amedovski. Pyfer followed up with another shot while he was on the ground, but it was over on the first shot.
Result: Joe Pyfer def. Alen Amedovski via TKO (punches) (3:55, R1)
Tanner Boser vs. Rodrigo Nascimento
Round One - Nascimento immediately worked for a takedown, and the next two minutes were just Boser attempting to stall on the ground. Eventually after a long grind, Boser explodes to his feet and shows off his speed and pace throwing some strikes, and clinches against the cage. Not a great round could go either way but Boser didn't do enough to overcome the control for me. 10-9 Nascimento
Round Two - Boser working body kicks and jabs, while Nascimento is throwing heavy counter shots, most of which don't land. Boser seems to hurt Nascimento but Nascimento reverses position, works to the back and threatens with a rear naked choke that seems deep, but can't be finished. 10-9 Nascimento. 20-18 after 2.
Round Three - After a back and forth minute on the feet, Nascimento scores a takedown, and weighs on Boser from guard. Nascimento passes to halfguard after about a half minute on the ground. Nascimento nearly works to half guard, and start chipping away with ground and pound. Multiple warnings from referee Mark Smith to get active on top. Finally a standup with 30 seconds left and Boser is shot out of a cannon looking for the finish he needs. Good effort from Boser fighting to the death, but probably not enough. 30-27 Nascimento for me. Terrible fight.
Result: Rodrigo Nascimento def. Tanner Boser via split-decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Anthony Hernandez vs. Marc-Andre Barriault
Round One - Tight in fighting early in round one with both trading hard shots inside. Hernandez shoots for a couple of takedowns before finally getting one and not gaining control. Barriault attempts to take the back from the poor shot, starts a scramble and lands some ground and pound. Hernandez lets Barriault up, and rinse and repeat sees Hernandez land multiple takedowns. Strong round for Hernande.
Round Two - Barriault mentioned between rounds that he thinks he's broken his rib. More of the same as Hernandez lands heavy shots and transitions right into a takedown. Two minutes of ground and pound from Hernandez, as Barriault worked to his feet for just a matter of seconds before he goes back down. Complete domination from Hernandez on the ground as he brushes him with ground and pound and transitions from the back to the mount. Total domination, potentially a 10-8 round.
Round Three - Hernandez gets immediately back to dominant position and its just more of the same. at one point a scary mat return from Hernandez spikes Barriault directly on top of his head, and shortly thereafter secured the arm-triangle for the submission win.
Result: Anthony Hernandez def Marc-Andre Barriault via submission (arm-traingle) (1:53, R3)
