Former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker, believes he can defeat current champ, Israel Adesanya if the pair ever met inside the Octagon for a third time.
Whittaker spoke with journalist Ariel Helwani on Monday's edition of his show The MMA Hour and discussed why he's still confident in his ability to dethrone the 33-year-old Laos, Nigeria native, even though he's dropped two prior meetings to him at UFC 243 in October 2019 and UFC 271 in February 2022.
“I guess I’m in a position right now where either, their (the UFC) happy for me to have that rematch with him and I understand three attempts,” Whittaker said (h/t MMA Mania). “I’ve seen the things like, ‘Oh, Rob’s just gonna keep fighting him. Rob just give it up. Blah, blah, blah.’ You see this stuff and it’s like, yeah, but what do you want me to do? I can’t quit. I’m in this game and he’s got the belt and I want to win. I want to take that from him. I’m going to beat him. Izzy fought Pereira four times over the course of his career. I’m only gonna need to fight Izzy three times because I will beat him that next time. I’m 100% confident that I will beat him that next time.”
