Robert Whittaker is coming off what may be the biggest win of his professional MMA career when he defeated Derek Brunson in the main event of UFC Fight Night 101, but he’s looking toward the future and he has his next opponent in mind -- Gegard Mousasi.
“He’s (Gegard Mousasi) a top athlete, he’s a top fighter, and he’s a cool dude,” Whittaker said to MMA Junkie. “If that’s a fight the UFC wants, that’s a fight they’ll get.”
Whittaker had a lot of respect for the game plan Brunson had entering their fight at UFC Fight Night 101, but he says that he was never rocked once during the fight by Brunson’s blitzing attacks.
“It’s funny, because I actually remember in the fight as I was backing away, I was thinking, does he think he rocked me? I wasn’t rocked,” Whittaker said. “I was still in it. A lot of people were critical of his game plan charging forward, but ask the last four dudes. He takes you out of it.”
UFC Fight Night 101 was the first card that Whittaker headlined, he is not expecting to compete again until next year at the earliest.
