Rory MacDonald made his Bellator MMA debut at Bellator 179, where he submitted Paul Daley in the second round of their main event encounter.
When it came to the welterweight title fight between Douglas Lima and Lorenz Larkin at Bellator 180, the Canadian wasn’t to impressed by what he saw.
“I was really underwhelmed,” MacDonald said after the fight. “I was expecting a good fight. I had a lot of excitement going into this fight. Larkin is an excellent fighter. If these guys think they’re keeping a belt fighting like that against me, it’s not gonna happen. I’m gonna take these guys out. They’re just gonna be another body in the grave.”
MacDonald is next in line to challenge champion Douglas Lima, although a date for the fight has yet to be set.
Even though he is next in line for a title shot, the welterweght also explains that his start with Bellator MMA is the beginning of a new chapter in his professional MMA career.
“This is the next chapter in my career,” MacDonald said. “I’m not playing games anymore. i’m coming forward, I’m doing my style now. I’m not playing games. I’m not point fighting anymore. I’m there to take you out. I’m hunting you down, and I’m gonna bury you and that’s it.”
The Canadian star did challenge for the UFC Welterweight Title during his time in that promotion, but came up short against then champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 189.
