After suffering a second round submission loss to the undefeated Mickey Gall, Sage Northcutt has decided that his days at welterweight are finished, as he will be moving back to the lightweight division.
Northcutt made the announcement via Instagram:
Northcutt has been undefeated at lightweight in the UFC, defeating the duo of Francisco Trevino and Cody Pfister. Northcutt hasn’t seen as much success as a welterweight in the UFC, defeating Enrique Marin, while suffering defeats to Bryan Barberena and Gall.
When Northcutt returns to lightweight in 2017, it will be his first lightweight division fight since UFC Fight Night 80 in December 2015. Gall also announced he has plans to fight at lightweight.
