Thomas Almeida Expecting To Return Late This Year/Early Next Year

Thomas Almeida hasn’t been seen in the Octagon since UFC 220, where he suffered a second round TKO loss to Rob Font.

The fighter has been dealing with a serious eye injury since UFC 220, but he hopes to be back in action either the end of this year or early next year.

“I just want to say to everybody wait until my comeback,” Almeida said to MMA Junkie. “Late this year or early next year we will be back in the game. I can’t wait for it. I miss the adrenaline rushing through my body.”

Almeida has won just one of his last four under the UFC banner and the fighter hasn’t picked up a win in almost three years.

A UFC event in Almeida’s home country of Brazil will happen this November and the fighter would like to potentially return there.

“I’d love fight in my hometown,” Almeida said. “The energy here is amazing but I don’t want to push anything. I have to respect this time, health first when you think about a long term career.”

Despite not competing since the aforementioned UFC 220 card, a recovering Almeida is still ranked #15 in the UFC Bantamweight Division rankings.
