Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia lost the title to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir at UFC 48 in 2004.

Sylvia lost the title due to a technical submission after Mir broke his arm during an arm bar attempt and that arm injury required surgery, which the UFC paid for.
