Tito Ortiz Knocks Out Chuck Liddell In The First Round At Golden Boy MMA: Liddell vs. Ortiz III

MMA

The rivalry between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz is over. Hopefully.

At the inaugural Golden Boy MMA event, Tito Ortiz knocked out Chuck Liddell in the first round of the main event. The fight was a slow and plodding affair with Liddell looking every bit of 48 years old. Ortiz grew comfortable as the seconds passed and eventually pressed forward, catching Liddell with a right hand that crumpled the Iceman to the mat. Ortiz followed up with a couple of more blows before the referee jumped in to stop things.

The bout marked the first time Liddell fought professionally since June 2010. He has now lost six of his last seven fights, with five losses coming via TKO or KO. Ortiz has won four of his last five, finishing three out of four opponents. Ortiz' last (T)KO victory prior to Saturday came way back in 2006 when he stopped Ken Shamrock, 42 years old at the time of the fight, with strikes.

Liddell and Ortiz had met two times prior to Saturday, first in 2004 and then again in 2006. Liddell won both meetings by (T)KO.
